Syphilis treatment

Dear Counsellor:

I found out I was infected with syphilis. I was treated. I don't want to tell my ex-boyfriend because he is very scandalous. What happens if he is not treated?

Ex-Lover:

Dear Ex-lover:

Without treatment, syphilis can lead to severe illness and even death. It is very important for your ex-boyfriend to be informed to control and prevent further spread. He may be involved with another woman whose ex-boyfriend becomes your future boyfriend.

Remember, using a condom every time will reduce your risk of becoming infected with sexually transmitted infections including HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

Dear Counsellor:

What signs does a person with gonorrhoea show? I have a slight burning whenever I pee.

Lover Boy

Dear Lover Boy:

Some men with gonorrhoea may have no symptoms. However, some have signs or symptoms that appear two to five days after infection. symptoms can take as long as 30 days. These include a burning sensation when urinating, or a white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis. Some men get painful or swollen testicles.

The surest way to avoid transmission of sexually transmitted infections is to abstain from sexual contact or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected.
