The decision to move the start date of the Flow Champions Cup - Jamaica's biggest all-island football knockout competition has reaped huge dividends, the title sponsors say.

Usually held in April of each year when the National Premier League was in full flow, the start date for the current season was moved back by several months and based on the first round of competition that began on September 12, the action has been fierce.

"It's been a wonderful return to football for Flow in terms of the Flow Champions Cup," said Donovan White Flow's vice-president of marketing and sales for Columbus Communications, who spoke with Star Sports at the offices of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) on Friday, shortly after the completion of the draw for the second round of games.

"This second-round draw sets up like a premier league mid-season kind of clash, and that's exciting because this is at the start of the season and this is what we had envisaged when we moved from playing in April to playing in September and October because we felt it was the best time to play football when the teams are excited. They are fresh to competition for the new season, they have all their energies flowing in the same direction, so we are able to galvanise that support and we are very happy from that perspective."

Round One of the competition closed off on September 12 with Rivoli United FC, Sporting Central FC, Black Star FC, Axum Sports Club, Reggae Youths FC, Montego Bay United FC, Holland United FC, Barbican FC, Port Morant United FC and Humble Lion FC advancing to Round Two of the competition. Round Two will take place on September 18 and 19 with the top 10 teams from Round One and the top six Premier League teams vying for a spot in the next round, bringing them closer to the championship title and $J1 million.
