Hold a Royal Vibes

PRINCESS POPSTAR, ridden by Percy Williams for trainer Philip Feanny, romps home by 19 lengths on her debut over 1000 metres in the opening race for two-year-olds at Caymanas Park on Wednesday. TUNED like a well-oiled machine, Wayne DaCosta's ROYAL VIBES should use fitness to conquer United States-bred ADMIRAL SNOW in tomorrow's seventh event at mile.

After finishing down the track in the July 6 St Leger behind stablemate PEREFECT NEIGHBOUR, ROYAL VIBES returned a big 11-length winner, two and a half weeks later, outclassing non-winners-of-two and imported maidens, at 1820 metres.

The pacy gelding pulled away from PRINCESS SHANEIL to win in a decent 1:59.4, returning to the form which saw him placing third in the June 15 Jamaica Derby, beaten four lengths by PERFECT NEIGHBOUR.

With nothing to fear from the local breds who he is up against tomorrow, ROYAL VIBES' supposed threat is ADMIRAL SNOW, who returned from a six-month lay-up with a seventh-place effort behind PETE'SWILDONE two Sundays ago.

ADMIRAL SNOW chased PETE'S-WILDONE down the backstretch and into the lane but weakened on a fast track as his fellow American-bred quickened away to beat FIERECEANDFABULOUS in a quick 1:19.3.

Backed as a 6-5 favourite off a lay-up, ADMIRAL SNOW did not look the part in the paddock with bandages on his hind legs.

When the pace quickened, he failed to show the speed he had conjured to slam RUM PUNCH and PETE'SWILD-ONE on February 27.

PETE'SWILDONE, beaten eight and three quarter lengths by ADMIRAL SNOW back in February, slammed him by seven on his August 25 return, an almost 16-length swing in form.

After his disappointing return, it took ADMIRAL SNOW almost a week to put in a canter on the exercise track and nine days before he got a speed gallop - 1:01.0 for five furlongs round, last Thursday.

ROYAL VIBES, however, has been cantering almost every morning at exercise and has put down a pair of five and a half furlong gallops, the last being 1:09.2 Saturday morning.

DaCosta's runner will carry 52.0 kilos with Dick Cardenas in the irons, breaking from post-position seven in the eight-horse line-up, getting six pounds from ADMIRAL SNOW in stall one.

It's hardly likely that ADMIRAL SNOW will be led but could have JADA'SFABULOUSTOUR for company coming out of the chute.

ROYAL VIBES is also a frontrunner, a nagging one, and should use fitness to stalk and pounce on ADMIRAL SNOW as the pair is likely to separate from the pack leaving the half-mile.

Cardenas will have to be smart and not get caught in a speed duel as NATURALLY EVIL will be a real threat from off the pace with 51.0 kilos.
