Demonstration planned in London for slain relative

A demonstration is being planned by a number of persons in London, England, over the December 17, 2011 murder of 59-year-old retiree Errol Bennett Sr in Hector's River, Portland, due to a delay of the murder trial.

It had been reported that Bennett, from Preston, Lancashire, England, was attacked in December by machete-wielding intruders while on winter break at his villa in Hector's River.

Bennett's friend, 27-year-old Kerry-Ann Thompson, suffered large cuts to her neck in the attack, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.

Bennett's daughter, Zoe, said her father was brutally murdered. "He was murdered in the most barbaric way, he was tortured to death. They slashed him in the head with a machete, and a further 14 times on his body. They took him to different parts of the house, so it went on for around 20 minutes," Bennett was quoted as saying.

chief suspect

At the time of his murder, the police had named a nephew as a chief suspect, the post continued.

Zoe, a British marketing representative, also from Preston, and who at the time was working for the Jamaica Tourist Board, had been suspended because of several comments she made about her father's death on Facebook.

A cousin of the deceased, Amanda Bennett, said the protest is scheduled to take place on October 9, outside the Foreign Consulate Building, Kings Charles Street, London. The protest, she explains, is to show that the family urgently needs the trial to progress.

"We're trying to let people know that all we want is for the trial to go ahead. We want what is right, and what we want is for the trial to progress," she said.
