Jamaica has been ranked the 75th happiest country in the world, according to the latest World Happiness Report of 2013 released on Monday by Columbia University's Earth Institute.

Jamaica was one of the countries measured as part of the region Latin America and Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago was the highest ranked Caribbean nation at 31.

According to the findings, Jamaica is less happier now when compared to the previous study carried out in 2005-2007.

Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Sweden are ranked as the world's happiest countries, according to the survey of 156 countries. Rwanda, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Benin, and Togo — all nations in Sub-Saharan Africa — are the least satisfied with their lives, the report said.

Canada, Finland, Austria, Iceland, and Australia round out the top 10.

The global survey was conducted between 2010 and 2012 and follows the Earth Institute's first rankings released last year. While "the world has become a slightly happier and more generous place over the past five years," economic and political upheavals have resulted in greatly reduced levels of well-being for some nations, the report stated.

The level and decomposition of happiness is measured by healthy life expectancy, perceptions of corruption, GDP per capita, freedom to make life choices, social support, and generosity.
