Rasbert Turner, Star Writer
July 30, 1963, marked a very special day in the lives of Stanley and Ethlyn Henry, as it was when they exchanged nuptials at a private ceremony in Linstead, St Catherine. That sojourn has now blossomed into a golden anniversary as they are celebrating their 50th year of marriage this year and continue to bring happiness to each other, sharing the same love that brought them together and has kept them as man and wife for half a century. The much-loved couple spoke to THE STAR Life and Times about the methods used to fuel their journey of love. ''I remember the first time mi si har, mi tell har dat mi love har and she just smile and mi heart feel good and from dat day we never leave each other side, '' Stanley said with a reflective smile. His diminutive wife, Ethlyn sat quietly by his side and smile broadly while listening to his every word and added her views to that first day they laid eyes on each other. "Yes mi remember it was in Redwood (St Catherine) dat me see him and mi know sey that mi love him to, so mi just smile, and looking back I would give him another 50-year of mi life,'' she assured. The Henrys told THE STAR Life and Times that it took very hard work to make the relationship work as it required constant monitoring and prayer to nurture it positively .'' I was born in Bull Bay, St Andrew and mi wife was born in Mullock, St Catherine, but we worked together as a team and it was through farming that we raised di children dem,'' Stanley revealed. The union produced six children, Sandra, Bulah, Veronica, Doralyn, Monique and Christopher and the couple said they are very proud to see their children grown. ''It is a good feeling to see dem grow up and deh here now, it makes yu feel good that you did what is right for them,'' Stanley said. It was the consensus of the children that indeed they were blessed to have God-fearing parents who raised them very well. The couple's special milestone was held at the Bushy Park Housing Scheme in St Catherine. Scores of family members, friends and well-wishers turned out for the evening's activities and they too added their voices through kind words to the couple. The warmth of the surrounding family members and friends despite the heavy rain, indicated that the Henrys were indeed an example of pure love and showed that what God has put together no man can take apart. |
