Sheffield coach says Reggae Boy midfielder must atone for red card if given opportunity

Reggae Boy Jermaine Johnson is expected to be given the opportunity to redeem himself by Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones, after leaving the manager fuming two weeks ago after picking up a red card.

Johnson was dismissed, after coming on as a substitute, in the club's encounter against Rotherham in the League One Cup. The midfielder joined the game on the hour mark but was ejected 12 minutes from time after the referee deemed he had headbutted an opponent. After serving a three match suspension the player will, however, be eligible for selection by Jones, who deemed the player's actions as "unacceptable", today should he be chosen.

"He's wise enough and old enough to know he shouldn't be doing those things. It doesn't matter whether it's today's game or 15 years ago, he shouldn't be doing those things. Nothing has changed. It's certainly been an expensive lesson for him. I am sure he won't want to do it again."

The coach, who has seen his team struggle for creativity and pace since the player's suspension, believes the player is ready to return to the team.

"His attitude has always been good. I think he went on his Twitter account and apologised," Jones told UK publication Yorkshire Post (yorkshirepost.co.uk).

"He's let everyone down and now he's got to make up for that. If selected, he'll get that opportunity."
