A 25-year-old man who pleaded not guilty to tricking two farmers into believing that he could provide overseas employment for them was remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Ricardo Dean is charged with several counts of obtaining money by means of false pretence, breaches of the Employment Regulation Act, and conspiracy to defraud.

On a previous court date, Dean was granted $50,000 bail but was remanded after the police told the court that he had been threatening to kill the complainants if they continued with the case.

He returns to court on September 17. His fingerprints were taken.

Allegations are that the accused pretended that he worked at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and was in a position to provide overseas employment for the complainants.

It is alleged that he collected $31,000 from the complainants, however, no jobs were forthcoming.

The matter was reported to the police and Dean was arrested.

"Your Honour, I have been out of a phone for the last three months. I would not be so stupid to try and contact or threaten anyone," Dean told the court.

The police also told the court that the accused had also levelled threats against the father of one of the complainants.
