A 18-year-old Jamaican woman is to spend nine months in prison after she was found guilty of passport fraud in Trinidad and Tobago.

According to a report on www.trinidadexpress.com, Briana Wright was sent to prison for tampering with her passport.

It is reported that three weeks ago, the police went to a house at Marabella where they met Wright who is a sales clerk.

She was taken to the Ariport Immigration Detention Centre on Wednesday, where she was interviewed by a representative of the San Fernando Immigration Department who told her that she was found to be in possession of a tampered passport.

She told investigators that her passport got wet at home and she gave it to her landlord who repaired it. Wright pleaded guilty to the offence of tampering with the passport, she was handed a nine-month sentence.

After serving time, Wright who has been staying illegally in Trinidad since 2011, will be deported to Jamaica.
