Special Constable Carrington Campbell, formerly attached to Harman Barracks, was yesterday convicted in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court and sentenced to nine months at hard labour for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Campbell was charged following allegations that in November 2010, while on duty at the Supreme Court, he approached two complainants who had a case before the same court and proposed that they settle the matter outside of court.

The matter was reported to the Anti-Corruption Branch and a file submitted to the director of public prosecutions, who ruled that the constable be charged.

Following his sentence, his lawyer indicated an intention to file an appeal. As a result, he was offered bail in the sum of $1 million.
