Rising sensation, Jah Bouks, though not billed to perform, didn't hesitate to give the audience, a memorably treat in culture singing during the Portmore Community College's (PCC) Culture-bration concert held at the Portmore Mall Amphitheatre recently.

He started with the emotional song Cry fi Di Youths before doing his smash hit, Angola. He then addressed the situation where he was hit in the face by a member of the security forces at a local stage show with the song Nah Run.

PCC singers delighted the crowd with their renditions of Love Is Your Friend, See No Tears, and Cry.

The all-male group Colas turned the tempo up a notch with their hilarious dub-poetry pieces.

The PCC dancers were elegant in their movements onstage as they danced to a mixed set of genres much to the delight of the audience, and the PCC drummers made their impact felt. Others making contributions to the show were Ascot and Waterford high schools.

The show was put on by the school's administration to showcase the various talents within the tertiary institution and the courses they offered. A similar show was also done at the PCC Old Harbour campus.

The college opened its door for classes on January 5, 1992, with 38 students, along with its first principal, Shirley Whylie. There were three teachers, two administrative staff, and one ancillary worker. The official opening was on February 6, 1992 by former Prime Minister, the late Michael Manley.

Many changes have been made throughout the years, and in October 2001, the college opened its doors of its first satellite campus in Old Harbour.

Karen Kennedy is the current principal. PCC continues to grow in terms of services and programmes offered as well as the modalities of programme delivery. In keeping with its community college mandate, the institution vigilantly seeks to provide education and training opportunities to the citizens of Portmore and its environs.
