Woodbine heads to MLS club Revs

Twenty-five year-old Jamaican left-back O'Brian Woodbine has been picked up by Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit New England Revolution as it looks to strengthen an area of its team that is widely regarded to be in need of attention.

Woodbine has been signed on a free transfer, as confirmed by the club yesterday.

Woodbine, who has represented Reno in the National Premier League, has won 14 caps for Jamaica and even featured against the US men's national team for the Reggae Boyz in a 2-1 loss in June.

Revolution General Manager Michael Burns told the club's official website that he is expecting the Jamaican to improve the team and help them push towards their objectives this season.

"O'Brian has both professional and international experience and we're expecting him to come in, help push our team, and provide depth the last few months of the season."

Woodbine has also spent time in the USL Pro League with Charleston Battery and in Finland with Vaasan Palloseura and Finnish giants Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi, winning the respective divisions' league title for every side bar Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi.

The 25-year-old will provide some much-needed cover for incumbent left-back Chris Tierney. The club legend is a nail-on starter for the side, but with second-string left-back Tyler Polak currently out on loan to Rochester Rhinos of USL Pro, Tierney could do with the cover in case of fatigue or injury.

Woodbine should be available for selection on the weekend for the Revs' divisional match-up against Toronto FC.
