Star Tell Me Pastor

Confused Christian

Dear Pastor,

I am 23 and became a Christian in April. I am having a problem. I was involved with an 'unsaved' person before I was a Christian, but he migrated last December to the United States.

We still communicate, whether on Skype or by cell phone. He said he wants to marry me, before I got saved and he is still thinking about doing so.

I am confused about the situation because the Bible says we must not be unequally yoked.

I need your advice, Pastor, because he really loves me and I love him too.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Please continue to pray for all of us who write and listen to your radio programme.

T.

Dear T.,

I suggest you discuss this matter with the minister of your church. People interpret the exaltation of being unequally yoked to mean different things. Your pastor should be able to give you guidance as to what the church believes.

Some people take the position that unless the person is a member of the congregation or a member of a sister church, with the same doctrinal position, they should not get married. That is a very narrow position to take. Some consider being a believer is to believe in God and accept cardinal doctrines. So such persons do not allow their differences of denomination to prevent them from getting married.

However, to avoid contention within your church, get some information from your pastor. My prayer is that he would point you in the right direction.

Pastor
