Police recruit among detainees in drug bust |

|
A potential police recruit was among five men detained on Wednesday by detectives from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in a major drug bust in St Andrew. The police said as a result of information garnered in the vetting system of persons applying to become members of the force, a team conducted an operation on East Kings House Road in the parish. During the operation, a house was searched and ganja weighing more than 600 pounds and having a street value of approximately J$6 million was seized. The identity of the force applicant, as well as those of the four other men, is being withheld pending further investigations. According to the ACB detectives, the vetting system is proving to be a formidable tool in the bid to ensure that only persons of the highest integrity and pristine character become police officers. Just last month, two force applicants were led away in handcuffs at the Jamaica Police Academy, after it was discovered that they had submitted fraudulent educational certificates during the recruitment process.
