|
It is the community in which he was born and raised, in fact, DJ Smurf is still living in that community to date, and says he decided to play a greater role in the back- to-school treat for the kids there this year. Dubbed the Woodford Park Unity Splash treat and stage show, the event is set to take place tomorrow. The treat is set to kick off from as early as 11 a.m., and will run throughout the day followed by a stage show in the night, from 7 p.m. - 2 a.m. According to DJ Smurf, "The treat and the stage show are free in admission and proceeds from the stage show will assist the less fortunate families from the community in sending their children back to school." "It's not the first that this event is being held," DJ Smurf says, "but it's the first that I'm getting involved at this level. Normally mi jus help them out with some promotion and get a few artistes to come and perform. But this year, I actually donated some school supplies like books, pencils, drawing sets, rubbers, sharpeners etc. I also contributed financially towards the entertainment treat for the kids like bounce-a-bout, popcorn machine, hot-dog machine, cotton-candy machine and stuff like that." Something positive For the event, DJ Smurf has partnered with Glenroy and Eugene and other members of the Innovation Family. "They are like the youths on the corner wey a try mek a difference in the community and also trying to do something positive wid dem life. These are people wey mi grow up wid, and once dem sey anything positive, I will always give my support." DJ Smurf says other businesses from the surrounding areas have also been showing support. "We have Caribbean Broilers, Berts Auto Parts (Camp Road), Big T (which is a juice company), Motor Sales, J & J Cell Phone Accessories and Repairs and we also have Metro Media, they are also from the community." DJ Smurf who has been supporting young artistes in general, and recently produced a new rhythm called 'Ear Piece' which features five upcoming artistes - Zagga, Gage, Darrio, Cee Gee, and King David, says, "the stage show aspect of the event is also an opportunity for upcoming artistes from the community to come and showcase their talent." He continued, "All the while when mi a produce riddims, alot of young artistes always ask if they can come on the rhythm, but when you put young talents with the big artistes, the young artistes don't get any airplay, so I decided to just do a rhythm featuring only young artistes and that way dem must get play." DJ Smurf says he is also appealing to all the big artistes who are available on the day of the treat to just come out and show their support at tomorrow's event in Woodford Park. |
