CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer Dancehall artiste Mavado recently hosted a concert in Guyana and charged only US$5 for admission. The show was held by the artiste in an attempt to appease his Guyanese fans after he had missed a show there the day before. Mavado's concert according to his manager, pulled an estimated 20,000 patrons with just a few hours of promotion. Following the show, the artiste went on to donate some of the money received from the event to the Joshua's House Children's Centre in Guyana. The centre houses homeless Guyanese children and they happily accepted Mavado's donation valued at $150,000 GYD. Mavado also donated another $150,000 GYD to a convalescence home in the country's capital. According to Mavado's manager Julian Jones-Griffith, the operators of the Children's Centre were very grateful and lauded Mavado for his kindness, more so because he isn't a Guyanese citizen. Mavado on the other hand, says his reason for donating to the Guyanese intuitions, was because he has received strong support from Guyana during his musical journey. "Guyana shows me so much love, it's a pleasure to give back. We had fantastic support at the show we held on the Monday night, so it was a natural act to give back to the community with the proceeds. We chose the children's home and old people's home because they are often the most needy as they cannot do much to help themselves financially," he said. Mavado and his manager Jones-Griffith have in the past been benefactors to the Maxfield Park Children's Home in Jamaica, purchasing playground equipment, diapers and other things the home needs. "It's important to give back when you are blessed. No matter how small it is. from you can spare it, share it, a dat mi say," said Mavado.
