After finishing fourth in the men's 100 metres finals at the 14th IAAF World Athletics Championships in Moscow, and setting a personal best enroute, Racers sprinter Kemar Bailey-Cole is planning to use his remaining meets to go after one more goal he set out to accomplish this season.

The lanky former Old Harbour High speedster had declared prior to the championships that among his goals this season was to make it to the final in Moscow and give it his best shot to win an individual medal. He fell short of that medal by 0.03 seconds, but subsequently came away with a gold medal as a member of the sprint relay team, as Jamaica defended the titles won in Berlin in 2009 and in Daegu in 2011.

With those goals out of the way, Bailey-Cole is aiming to break the 9.90-second barrier before he returns home for some much-needed rest.

"I am really tired," he said.

"And after being so focused on the World Championships, it's hard to keep that focus, now that the championships are over."

"But, I have one more goal," he continued. "9.8. I haven't reached that yet."

In Moscow, Bailey-Cole clocked a personal best of 9.93 seconds in the semi-finals, easing down and showing signs that he was ready to go much faster in the finals. However, an inconsistent start, which seemed like it had become a thing of the past in the first two rounds, returned to haunt him in the finals - that and the rain that began to fall just before the starter ordered the runners to their blocks.

He races next in Zurich on August 29 and then in Berlin, and possibly in Brussels before he brings his season to a close. The 9.8 is important, he said, but was rather philosophical when considering the possibility that he might not get there on his tired legs. "If I don't, there is all of next season to do so," he said.
