Farmer sentenced for burning wife with iron |

|
A man who was slapped with assault charges after he burnt his wife with a hot iron was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment yesterday. Alphanso Barrett, 42, who was charged with assaulting female, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning bodily harm, was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. Allegations are that on February 28, last year, Barrett and his wife had an argument, when he used a clothes iron to burn the complainant on her arm and on her left breast. It is alleged that the accused also used a piece of board to hit her across her back, and threw hot water on her. The complainant was reportedly admitted to the Kingston Public Hospital. Barrett is a farmer from Jacks Hill, St Andrew. |
