The East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Churches, for the first time ever, will be hosting a singles convention.

The event geared at Christian singles, starts today, until Sunday, at various venues in Kingston, under the theme 'Living Your Dreams'.

"When are you getting married is a question asked quite often to single Christians. The church has focused a lot of its time, energy and resources on marriage, while neglecting the existence of singles, and for many years single Christians have voiced their frustrations with regards to same," said Kayon Vaz, communications coordinator of the event.

"Many churches have launched singles-ministry groups in an effort to foster an environment where Christian singles, widowed, divorced or never been married, can fellowship with each other and not worry about the status quo. We hope to continue this trend and provide support for Christian singles. The Singles Adult Ministry seeks to improve and impact the lives of the single men and women in our churches, communities and society at large."

The weekend event promises to be a powerful one, with international speaker Andrea D Hicks, founder of Fellowship of Christians Unique and Single Ministries and Jamaica Union Conference, youth director, Michael Henry, having conversations with single Christians.

The convention kicks off at the Kencot Seventh-day Adventist Church on Friday at 6 p.m. and moves to the Karram Speid Auditorium on Saturday.

The final day starts with a Leadership Workshop at the Kencot SDA church, at 8:30 a.m., and ends with a Singles Power Brunch at the Knutsford Court Hotel, at 11 a.m.
