A man who racked up and failed to pay the remainder of a bill he incurred while staying at a hotel in Kingston had his bail denied in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Charged with obtaining credit by fraud is Antonio Perez, who, the prosecution believes, goes by several other names. The Crown has alleged that between July 29 and August 8, the accused occupied a suite at a Kingston hotel and incurred a bill totalling $114,000. The accused paid for the first two nights and made promises to settle the money on the additional 10 nights. The accused also went to the bar and ordered drinks to the cost of $3,250, resulting in a balance of $98,250, owing to the hotel. Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey would not grant Perez bail. She said she had a "sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach" that would not allow her to do so. It was discovered that Perez allegedly had several identities and several offences of this nature. The matter has been set for mention on September 9. |
