Ten Jamaicans will compete in today's Diamond League track and field athletics meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, including women's 4x100m relay gold medallists Kerron Stewart and Schillonie Calvert. The pair had teamed up with Carrie Russell and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to win the event at the just concluded World Championships, setting a new national record of 41.29 seconds. Stewart, who placed fifth in the final of the 100m at the Moscow championships in a time of 10.97 seconds just .01 seconds outside of her season best (SB) will hope to run closer to her personal best (PB) of 10.75 seconds. Calvert has a SB of 11.07 seconds, but was only able to clock 11.28 seconds as she bowed out at the semi-final stage at the championships. Three Jamaican women will also line up in the 400m, as they all seek to put the disappointment of the World Championships behind them. The trio will be led by national champion, Novlene Williams-Mills, who finished at the back of the field in the event final at the championships in a modest time of 51.49 seconds, a far cry from her SB of 50.01 seconds. The other two Jamaicans down to face the starters in the one-lap event are Rosemarie Whyte and Christine Day. The duo was part of the country's women's 4X400m relay team which was disqualified at the championships following a lane violation by Whyte on the first leg. Whyte, who has gone as fast as 49.84 seconds in her career, goes into the race with a SB of 50.86 seconds. Day, on the other hand, is yet to dip below the 50 seconds barrier with her PB standing at 50.85 seconds while her SB is 50.91 seconds. Another Jamaican who had a World Championships to forget, Kaliese Spencer, will be looking to rebound. She was disqualified in the women's 400m hurdle for a tail leg violation and also formed part of the ill-fated 4X400m relay team. Spencer, the defending Diamond League 400m hurdles champion, has been off the boil this season with a SB of 54.88 seconds; well below her PB of 52.79 seconds.
