![]() Evangelist Denver McKinson. - George Henry GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer It is always a good thing to work for the one who created you. Well, Denver George McKinson is doing just that and he loves it. He currently serves God and humanity as an evangelist, a missionary and an altar enforcer. McKinson, who is now a proud member of the King Jesus Pentecostal Fellowship Church in Negril, Westmoreland, said he loves the work he does, and especially that of an altar enforcer. This he pointed out helps him to feel a sense of satisfaction as he seeks souls for God. The question was asked, "why preach?", and the answer is, "because we want to continue the work of Christ. Before He (Christ) left, before He ascended, He said in St Mathew 28 verse 19 'Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations', baptising them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things'. We see where the Apostles brought out the great commission, fulfilling it", said Evangelist McKinson. The church leader shared that he enjoys being an evangelist. This, because he gets an opportunity to preach the word of the Lord, while winning souls for Him. It also gives him the chance to baptise individuals in Jesus name, as they accept Him as their personal Lord and Saviour. "It has always been my passion from I was very young to be an evangelist. From an early age, I saw two evangelists come to my church at Spaldings Hill in Clarendon, and preached the word. Persons got baptised; and I always said I want to be an evangelist, want to study the word, preach and have the same effect on people," shared the missionary. As to how his walk with the Lord started, the altar enforcer explained that he got saved at a street meeting which was being held in his Clarendon community. McKinson stressed that following the preacher's sermon, an altar call was extended and he responded. "I went to the altar and made the decision to become a child of God that day; me and two of my brothers as well as my sister. All four of us from the same family, same household got baptised; and I just continued throughout high school, and then attended Bible school where I learnt the word, and the conviction got more powerful on my life," said McKinson. He noted that afterwards he joined the missions group at his church, took part in hospital ministry, prayed for people at the hospital and on the road, saw persons receive the Holy Ghost and get baptised. McKinson said he did a lot of fasting and praying before he began to preach and started operating with the gifts of the spirit. Accidentally poisoned McKinson, who has experienced several miracles in his life since being saved, said he was saved from death when he accidentally poisoned himself with protein powder he was using to build muscles. He noted that the powder got contaminated when it was bitten by rats. "I said I was going to take a chance and I made my supplement as usual, and got sick for about two days. I had stomach and head pain; and I was conscious that I had leptospirosis. I prayed about it, wanted to go to church, then I went to church and came back, and when I reached home I was on the floor praying while in pain and not knowing that it was leptospirosis," declared McKinson. He said he prayed until he fell asleep and was unconscious until the following day. When he woke up, McKinson shared that he was totally healed. The pain was gone and the Lord revealed to him that he should have died, but his life was spared because God had a purpose for him. "He (God) revealed to me and said, 'You should have died but I have a purpose for you. I saved you, I delivered you another time'. I was sweating with cold sweat and all I could do was to pray, not knowing that it was the thing that I drank. So I could have died trying to get muscular," testified the evangelist. Evangelist McKinson gave his favourite scripture as 1Timothy 3: 16. His favourite song is 'Jesus is my deliverer'. Feedback: pehenrya@hotmail.com
