Eastwood to stop Star Flyer
Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

SUPER-fit EASTWOOD should hold his form and turn back the rejuvenated filly, STAR FLYER, in tomorrow's Aston Commock Memorial at 1700 metres.

Now under the care of Noel Ennevor's former assistant, Cleveland Mitchell, EASTWOOD shouldn't skip a beat. All that has changed is the trainer's name on the race form.

The four-year-old colt is racing from the same barn where Ennevor conditioned him to a strong second-place run behind SIRMANDI in the Valbert Marlowe Memorial at nine furlongs on June 29.

Challenging the leader AWESOME SENSATION into the lane, Richard Mitchell and EASTWOOD were swung side into the straight. AWESOME SENSATION's stablemate, SIRMANDI, took the shortest route, along the rail, closing from off the pace.

EASTWOOD staged a strong rally to head off SIRMANDI a furlong out. However, the big, strong colt won the battle to score by a half length from a brave EASTWOOD.

That was EASTWOOD's fourth big run after Ennevor removed the tongue tie in a March 20 victory over ETHOS at a mile.

In subsequent races, he was second to RAGING PROSPECT, March 30, and fourth behind PRINCE ANDREW at 1400 metres, May 18, before tackling SIRMANDI on June 29.

STAR FLYER, second in last year's 1000 Guineas and third in the Oaks, Governor's Cup and St Leger, returned off a 10-month break in April. She won on her third start back, two Saturdays ago, beating PHINEAS and WESTERN BULL in a non-winners-of-three at 1400 metres.

STAR FLYER matched strides with the speedy PRETTY EYES SANAA before opening up on PHINEAS and WESTERN BULL in the stretch run to clock 1:27.4.

She's a tough filly, who, at this time last year, was a better horse than EASTWOOD. However, during her lay-up, EASTWOOD has improved under Ennevor's care and has some big runs under his girth.

STAR FLYER is up in class and will have to resurrect much of her 2012 form to get past EASTWOOD, who is as fit as hands can make him.
