Psychiatric patient remanded for treatment |
|||||
A psychiatric patient who told a presiding magistrate that he doesn't believe that he needs to take his medication was remanded until August 15, when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. Ras-Gabre Beckford, 20, charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, was remanded for psychiatric treatment. Beckford pleaded guilty to kicking his sister, during a dispute at their home recently. The complainant told the court that she was in the process of preparing a meal, when Beckford started to curse using expletives. When Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the accused why he injured his sister, and why is it he continues to smoke ganja, Beckford gave several amusing answers. "I don't work. I am not a student. I just live. I was provoked. I don't believe that I need no medication, and I don't smoke ganja, I smoke herb," Beckford said. His mother, who was present, told RM Pusey that her son is a psychiatric patient and when-ever he gets upsets, he behaves boisterously. |
