Labourer held with drugs gets bail extension
Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man who was reportedly held with cocaine and ganja outside a popular Montego Bay hotel in April, had his bail extended to September 2 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Labourer Fabian Foster, 24, from Flankers, Montego Bay, is charged with possession of and dealing in, two ounces of cocaine and one ounce of ganja. He had his bail extended as the prosecution's file in his case was not ready.

The allegations are that the police were conducting an operation in Ironshore, when Foster was seen outside the RIU hotel with a duffel bag. On spotting the police, Foster attempted to flee, but was held, searched, and the narcotics found in his bag.

Clerk of the court Reginald England told presiding magistrate Vivienne Harris that the forensic certificate had not yet been signed for submission to the court.

"Your Honour, my instructions are that the forensic certificate is ready, it is only to be signed," said England.

"So you require a further mention date to complete the file. Is he on bail?" asked RM Harris.

"Yes, he is on bail," said Foster's lawyer Martyn Thomas.

"Return to court on September 2. Your bail is extended," RM Harris told Foster.
