Ministry hosts parenting information fairs |

|
The Ministry of Education is inviting parents of GSAT awardees to participate in a series of parenting information fairs which will be held at separate locations between August 11 and 27. The fairs are being held under the theme 'Surviving the Transition to Secondary School' and seek to provide assistance to parents whose children will be attending secondary school in the upcoming school year. The first event will take place this Sunday, August 11, at Jamaica College, while another will take place on Saturday, August 24, at Port Antonio High School. The third in the series of parenting information fairs will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at the St Hilda's High School in St Ann. Each event begins at noon and is slated to end at 5 p.m. Parents attending the seminars will benefit from information sessions covering topics such as parenting and child development, the needs of children at the high-school level, family involvement in the high school, and managing a successful transition. assist parents Several state agencies, including the Office of the Children's Advocate, the Child Development Agency, and the Registrar General's Department, will be on hand to assist parents. In addition, medical personnel including doctors will be conducting free health checks for students. Several corporate entities are also supporting the event and will be distributing back-to-school supplies at each location. The National Parenting Support Commission has been established by the Government of Jamaica as the coordinating agency for all
government activities relating to parenting and parenting support. The Commission is an agency of the Ministry of Education and has been established under the Education System Transformation Programme. |
