With a twist that saw axed contestant Shana-Kay Sealy returning as judge Tanya Stephens' wild card, the Digicel Rising Stars performers did little to entertain the audience. With Anthony Miller's wildcard, Zethroy Thomas, booted from the competition at the beginning of the show, it was up to the remaining nine contestants to woo the judges. The theme for the night was 'Hits from the 1980s' but the contestants struggled to find songs that suited their vocal ranges. First up was Chevanese 'Chevy' Thomas who performed God Can Make Something Out of Nothing. Tanya Stephens remarked that she was better than she used to be, but she still was not hitting the mark. Anthony Miller also agreed. "You're getting worse every week. Maybe you should try a secular song. Maybe that will work for you," Miller remarked. Ramian Williams was next and delivered a stellar performance. Performing Sanchez's Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone, Williams' performance pleased the judges. Tanya Stephens stated that it was a good selection. Anthony Miller remarked that it was the best performance thus far. Guest judge G Whizz also liked the performance but recommended that Ramian make better use of the stage. Performing Whitney Houston's How Will I Know, Sansanya Dawson got mixed reaction from the judges. Tanya Stephens loved the song and felt that Dawson was starting to show more of her talent. Craigy T felt it was an excellent performance, but Anthony Miller was not feeling it. "I didn't love it. You were rocking the wardrobe category but you were not up to scratch for Whitney," Miller said. After being spared elimination earlier in the night, Unique 3 still failed to impress the judges. Singing I'm So Excited, by the Pointer Sisters, they delivered a lacklustre performance. "I am so not excited. There is a reason you ended in the bottom of the pile. The song selection is awful, the pronunciation, the singing, the lack of vibe. You have to be voted off," Miller said. Craigy T also remarked that the background vocals were much more powerful than the lead singer's. Tish Brown fared no better. While his rendition of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time was on the dull side, Tanya Stephens loved his vocal range. "I can hear that it's getting better," she said. Anthony, however, was not as kind. "That was one big yawn. Not cutting it tonight. You can't come on looking pop down like that. You look terrible," he told Tish. Kadian Thompson came later with Tina Turner's What's Love Got To Do With It. "What's singing talent have to do with it? I didn't get talent coming across to me tonight. No sex appeal," Anthony Miller said. "Didn't like the fact that you were shouting. You also need to be careful when choosing wardrobe, choose something that is not distracting." Craigy T said while G whizz commended her for her use of the stage. Arguably one of the better performances for the night was from saxophonist Verlando Small. Performing Lionel Richie's Hello, Small had the women in the audience screaming for more. "I could tell you were not vocally cable of handling some of the notes, but I enjoyed it," Craigy T said. Don't know if anybody told you, but you can't sing. That performance was seamless. People will continue voting for you because everybody else is so bad," Miller quipped. "What you did with your vocals was much better than some of the vocalists," Tanya said. "To me it shot, mi nah lie," G Whizz added. He was followed by Kenny Smith who performed John Holt's If I Were A Carpenter. Craigy T stated that his voice had that true authentic reggae sound while G Whizz remarked that he should have had better eye contact with his audience. Tanya Stephens' wild card, Shana-Kay Sealy closed the show. "Vocally, you're not up to a song like that but you looked the deal," Anthony Miller said. "That was one of the best performances for the night. You have immense talent but you just keep pulling back. Stop holding back," Tanya Stephens said. Craigy T, however, stated that she had chosen the wrong song. |
