PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad: Jamaica Tallawahs registered their second win in as many matches in the Limacol Caribbean Premier League following a narrow five-run win over Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel at Queen's Park Oval yesterday. The Tallawahs, who on Sunday rebounded with a seven-wicket win over Antigua Hawksbills, after going down by eight wickets to the Guyana Amazon Warriors in their first game, scored 146 for six off their maximum 20 overs with the in-form Danza Hyatt ending unbeaten on 42. The Chris Gayle-led unit then returned to bowl with purpose and restricted the Red Steel to 141 for five off their allotment of overs. All-rounder Andre Russell, with two for 27, off three overs, and Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan with a measly 44 off his maximum six overs led the way for the Tallawahs against returning opener Adrian Barath 32, and New Zealander Ross Taylor, 31. Captain Dwayne Bravo and outstanding 17-year-old wicketkeeper, Nicholas Pooran, who had cameos towards the end to give the Red Steel a chance, made 29 and 20 not out, respectively. Earlier, Tallawahs, who lost the toss and were asked to take first strike, got a good start from openers Gayle and Pakistani Ahmed Shezad, who took the score to 38 without loss after five overs. Jamaica Tallawahs will next turn their attention to St Lucia Zouks, who they will play away at the Beausejour Stadium on Saturday. They will thereafter return to Sabina Park where they will play two return-leg home matches against the Red Steel and the Zouks, and one against the Kieron Pollard-led Tridents. |
