Moskva! |
|||||
So, my Moscow imagery changed dramatically over the last few hours as we changed hotels and moved into the official media hotel the other side of town. We were only booked at our previous place to facilitate an earlier-than-expected arrival in the city, and for convenience was located much closer to the peaceful and lush vicinities of the Luzhniki Stadium and the Moscow River that flows just beside it. No more waking up to nice greenery and the gold-tipped onion domes of the Novodevichy Convent almost at touching distance. I will have to reacquaint myself with waking up to concrete walls and noise from the road; it's what I'm used to back home anyway. We are now basically an hour away from the stadium, which also means even earlier mornings. Perfect! Nearly all the Jamaican media representatives are staying here, so it's bound to get interesting over the coming days. The start of the championships is just a couple days away now and it's getting pretty exciting. All the teams are now in the country and we got our first taste of the interest that the Jamaica vs the USA rivalry will get here as athletes from both teams trained together for the first time the other day to flashing cameras and wide-eyed volunteers. We do make much of this rivalry, but the athletes themselves all seem very close to each other; after all, they do spend a lot of time together on the road all over the world while on the circuit. |
