Much-travelled football coach Max Straw is now in charge of preparing promoted August Town FC for the upcoming Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) new season.

Straw confirmed his move to August Town, which returned to the Premier League after three seasons out.

"Yes, I am now coaching at August Town FC," Straw said.

He will be working without Lenworth 'Lennie' Hyde Sr, whom he has assisted at several Premier League clubs in the past.

"Myself and Lennie always work together, but after we both resigned at Humble Lion during last season, Lennie decided on taking a break from coaching and is now away. I decided to take up the offer at August Town and started over a week ago there," Straw explained.

relationship

"I have a good relationship with the August Town community from my days at UWI (University of the West Indies), and I was there as coach in the Super League (Kingston and St Andrew Football Association)," he added.

August Town have played in the Premier League before, but was not able to keep apace, and Straw is aware of the challenges ahead. They gained promotion for the third time in the club's history after finishing second to Rivoli United in the play-offs that ended in May. They played with a number of veteran players in the Super League and JFF play-offs.

"When a team comes up you have to strengthen. We won't put out a team of veterans. The idea is not to have a core of past players," Straw shared. "We have about four players we wish to sign, but it is up to the management. We have to play attractive and attract a strong fan base."

upcoming task

He said August Town's management team is well aware of the task at hand.

"They are well aware of the pitfalls of dropping back to the Super League, so they will just have to do everything possible to maintain the team."

Straw is not short on experience as a coach in the nation's top league as he worked at clubs such as Arnett Gardens, Harbour View, Tivoli Gardens, Sporting Central Academy and Humble Lion in the past.
