Waterford Corner League brings community together

Fenley Douglas (right), councillor for the Waterford Division, chats with a manager of one of the teams during the opening match in the Fenley Douglas-sponsored Waterford Corner League football competition at the Waterford field last Sunday.

Fenley Douglas, the councillor for the Waterford Division, said that the Waterford Corner League football tournament, of which he is the main sponsor, has bridged a gap between warring factions in the vast Portmore community.

"There are youths that are in this league that never spoken to each other or knew that there was a playfield at the back of Waterford, or that it was fenced," Councillor Douglas said in an interview with THE PORTMORE STAR. "That's one of the reasons I am committed to this league, through sports I want to build relations within the Waterford community," he said.

Two matches were played last Sunday at the Waterford field. In the opening match Jammins defeated Duncans 2-0, while 21-Strong upset defending champs, Oneity 1-0.

The competition continues tomorrow.
