Bridgeport, Race Course square off in SDC quarters

Last year's beaten finalist Bridgeport of St Catherine and Race Course of Clarendon will square-off in the feature game of the quarter-finals of the Social Development Commission (SDC) Community Twenty20 tournament at Harmons, Manchester, tomorrow.

The match-up, which will be the second of a double header at the venue, is set to get under way at 2 p.m., and will be preceded by a clash between former champions, St Elizabeth's Junction & Bull Savannah and Kingston and St Andrew's Richmond Park at 10:00am.

The other quarter-finals, which are set for Eden Park, St Mary, will see Westmoreland's Petersville and Clarks Town meeting at 10:00am, and Jacks River of St Mary and Orange locking horns at 2:00pm.

Bridgeport, who were defeated by Old Harbour in the final last year, are expected to depend on former national youth representatives Brian Latore and Shane Brooks, in-form batsmen Kawayne Barrett and Hodayne Bryce, as well as experienced players such as Shane Brooks, captain Lloyd Black and Delroy Morgan.

"Our aim is to get back to the grand finale," said Black. "We have been there before, and all the years have reached at least the quarterfinals. So we are expecting everybody to pull their weights and come out trumps."

Racecourse, in the meanwhile, last year lost to Bridgeport in the semi-finals, and will be looking to turn the tables on their parish neighbours.

Ironically, as well, is that Race Course, who will be led by West Indies and national fast bowler, Krishmar Santokie, knocked out Bridgeport in the quarter-finals two seasons ago.

As for the feature game at Harmons, Junction & Bull Savannah are expected to start as favourites against Richmond Park.

Junction will be captained by former St Elizabeth CA representative, Troy Powell, and will have in their line-up two recent former national Under-19 players, Brian Gayle and Kerry Holness.

"We are looking forward to a good performance as we have been training well all week," explained Powell.

"Our strongpoint is our batting as we have been averaging over 160 throughout the season, and this will be led by myself, Christopher Dyer and Tyrone Vassell."
