Reggae Boy Dane Richards saw a frustrating spell in English football officially come to an end after being released by Championship team Burnley.

The 29-year-old joined the club from Major League Soccer (MLS) club Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2012 but failed to make any positive impression, making just two substitute appearances. Richards was, as a result, loaned out to Norwegian side FK Bodo/Glimt in April last year, with the club now looking to make the move permanent.

Richards had always expressed a desire to play in England and was tipped to have the potential to succeed by former New York Red Bulls teammate and English Premier League star Thierry Henry.

The Jamaican, however, struggled to impress at the club and was not helped by the departure of then manager Eddie Howe, the man who brought Richards to the outfit.

"The club had already signed him when I was appointed," new Burnley boss Sean Dyche told the club's official website last year.

"We feel we have given him fair time to get used to it and give him a taste for it," he added.

"We just thought he was short for what we needed."
