Businessman fined for beating, throwing water on homeless man

A businessman who threw water on a homeless man before beating him with a piece of board to force him away from the entrance to his business place was fined in court on Tuesday.

Delroy Collington of a Corporate Area address pleaded guilty with explanation to assault occasioning bodily harm in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Collington told Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey that he assaulted the man because he continued to defecate and urinate at the entrance to his business daily, despite his pleas with him to desist.

He also expressed his frustration at having to clean up the mess himself despite innumerable warnings.

He also claimed that he made numerous reports to The New Kingston Police Post about the complainant's alleged bodily activities, but that was no deterrent.

On the other hand, the homeless man denied the allegations.

" No man, is untruth," he told the RM.
