Three months, imprisonment was the sentence handed down in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to a man who was being held in police custody, after he was found to be in possession of a Samsung cell phone. Charged with introducing contraband into a lock-up is Rayon Williams. The court heard from the accused that a police officer at the lock-up he was being held, took $4,500 from him for the purchase of the cell phone. While in the lock-up, the officer and another inmate is alleged to have been in an altercation, which caused Williams to remark to the officer, "What's that for? You are supposed to serve and protect." This is reported to have angered the officer who Williams said later charged him for being in possession of the phone. He was subsequently ordered to serve the three months. |
