Corporal on corruption charge offered bail
September 23 was the trial date set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for a police corporal attached to the Darling Street Police Station, accused of corruption.

Charged with breach of the corruption prevention act is Errol Wright, who was offered bail in the sum of $250,000 with surety.

He is to surrender his travel documents and a stop order was put in place. He is set to return to court on September 23.

The Crown is alleging that, on the day of the incident, the police corporal collected monies from the driver of a coaster bus to secure the release of the vehicle that was seized by him.

The corporal reportedly seized the bus near East Queen Street, sometime last month, after his inspection of the bus documents revealed that the driver was operating contrary to his road licence.

He and the complainant allegedly reached an agreement for the release of the public-passenger vehicle by unlawful means.

The prosecution informed Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that the monetary exchange was recorded during a sting operation on the grounds of a church.
