St Catherine, Portmore win big in Wray & Nephew T20 |

St Catherine and Portmore registered emphatic wins on Sunday in the Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Masters Twenty20 cricket competition at the Kensington Cricket Oval. May Pen Lions are the sole leaders of Zone A on six points after St Catherine defeated Domtar by 32 runs with both teams on three points each. five-wicket haul Domtar won the toss and invited St Catherine to bat. They made 138 for four, on the back of Layton Brown and Carey Brown with unbeaten knocks of 44 and 32, respectively, while Colin Buchanan made 28. Donald Gregory bagged two for 11 in four overs to be the most successful bowler. Domtar, in reply, got to 32 without loss but lost wickets regularly on the way to 106-9 in their 20 overs. Delroy Morgan made 23 and Hugh Meredith, 13. Lloyd Spence got the first five-wicket haul of the series this year when he bagged five for 27 in his four overs. In the second match, Portmore recorded their first win in three matches after defeating Moneague Strikers by seven wickets. Batting first after winning the toss Moneague made 169-4. Patrick Harty blasted 83 including six fours and six sixes while Martin Clarke made 43. The main wicket taker was Robert Turner who took three for 38 in four overs. unbeaten 99 Portmore replied with 170-3 in 18.3 overs. Robert Turner struck a masterful unbeaten 99 with 10 fours and three sixes. Samuel Douglas chipped in with 33. Vernon Rose with 2 for 21 was the main wicket taker. Domtar and St Catherine, with six points each, are now joint leaders in Zone B. The competition continues next Sunday with two matches. Defending champions Mico will face Melbourne before Wray All Stars take on St Thomas in the second match. |
