Popular cops called 'corrupt' online |

![]() A mysterious letter posted on a website last week has made damning allegations of corruption against senior members of the police force. The allegations were made by a former policeman who fingered many 'name-brand' senior cops and other former members of the constabulary who he claims were involved in various illegal and sometimes gruesome activities. The document was written in 2005, but for unknown reasons did not make it into the public domain until it was published last May on the website. The informant, who says he lives overseas, revealed that he decided to break his silence to rid the force of corruption, both from persons linked directly or indirectly to crime. The detailed document is arranged in chronological order with incidents since 1994. It also alleges that the corrupt cops were being aided by a former police commissioner. The names of the alleged corrupt cops are listed in the document and their divisions include that of St Andrew South, Kingston Western and St Andrew Central. However, according to the document, all the incidents occurred in St Andrew South. hired killers Among the acts these policemen allegedly committed or abetted are robbery, extortion, murder, cocaine dealing, improper disposing of cases, and the planting of guns and/or ammunition. Some also worked as hired killers, the document revealed. The informant says he was led to believe that the more crimes a policeman committed, the more promotions he gets. THE STAR gathered that among the alleged crimes committed by the cops named in the document was their involvement with known criminals, some of whose names and aliases were given. "These policemen associate themselves with people that have questionable character," the former cops said in the letter. It is understood that the document was sent to a popular broadcaster whose name was also listed, but who refused to do a story after the informant declined to speak on his radio programme. defamatory National Security Minister Peter Bunting, through his communications adviser, told THE STAR that he could not comment as the document was defamatory, and he referred us to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB). However, ACB head Justin Felice said he had never before heard about the document, but promised to make checks. Efforts to speak with Carolyn Gomes, head of Jamaicans for Justice, were unsuccessful. The ex-cop said on many occasions his former colleagues labelled him a 'traitor' and made him public enemy number one in the force because he refused to partake in their corrupt activities. "Honestly, I wouldn't like to see anyone within the police force be the next commissioner for now," he wrote. "Jamaica is crying for justice from police. I hope my info will help you." |
