Head coach of Jamaica's team at the IAAF World Youth Championships (WYC) Michael Carr has heaped praise on the young Jamaican athletes, after a dominating third day of competition, which saw the mining of two gold medals and one bronze.

Carr pointed to Thompson's run as the catalyst for yesterday's comeback by the Jamaicans, who were still miserable after failure in the boys and girls' 100m, where no medals were won.

"Yanique's race was like a pipe, when you turn it on and it starts flowing; that's what she did, she turned on the pipe and medals are beginning to run. I expect over the next two days that medal count will continue to rise," Carr said.

"Finishing with three quality medals today is amazing, it was a great day. Tiffany James got a bronze in the 400m, but to me that is like a gold. She ran her heart out and we have to give thanks to her. Baker, even though he did not medal, I think he ran a stout-hearted race just to get into the final," said Carr, assessing the performances.
