DONETSK, Ukraine:

Jamaica head coach Michael Carr labelled the country's IAAF World Youth 100m hurdles champion and World Youth Record holder Yanique Thompson as a genuine prospect for the future.

The Jamaicans won gold medals in the boys 400m and the 110m hurdles and a bronze in the girls 400m, to lift their tally to four and in the number one spot in the table.

Jaheel Hyde set a WYC championship record, 13.13, barely missing out on the 13.12 world record mark in the boys 110m hurdles final, while Martin Manley ran a world-leading 45.89 to top the boys 400m final field to claim Jamaica's second and third gold medals. Tiffany James, 53.56 took home the bronze in the girls 400m

However, it's Thompson gutsy run that still has folks talking, and Carr, a man who knows how to spot talent, having helped develop world-beating stars like Olympic and world 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, is sure of Thompson's quality.

"This one is special," said Carr of Thompson.

"She doesn't like to lose. She has the talent and she is a warrior, I definitely think she will go far in this event."

Carr played a big role in her improvements, helping her to limit the time she spent gliding over hurdles and getting her to bring her feet back on the ground much faster, which showed as she ran personal bests in her last two rounds.

"She was very responsive to the advice and being responsive meant that she had confidence in what she was told and she tried it and saw that it worked. That gave her more drive to keep working on it," Carr added.

"She doesn't like to lose. She has the talent and she is a warrior, I definitely think she will go far in this event."
