Vybz Kartel murder trial to start Monday

The murder trial involving popular dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel and his co-accused Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson is to start on Monday.

Yesterday, a 12-member jury was selected and presiding judge Justice Brian Sykes said the court will begin hearing evidence on that day.

In addressing the jury, the judge urged them to refrain from discussing or researching the case during the trial period.

Jurors were also told that, if approached by anyone, they should walk away and, if the individuals persist, they should report the matter to the police or Court Registry.

Kartel, whose name is Adidja Palmer, is charged along with McDonald and Thompson for the July 2011 murder of St Catherine businessman, Barrington 'Bossie' Bryan.

Bryan was reportedly shot and killed while he was standing with friends in Gregory Park, St Catherine.
