Friends of VMBS triumphed over Blades United to win the inaugural Fast Five Netball Rally staged by the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.

Friends of VMBS outscored Blades United 14-8 to take the $45,000 top prize that was on offer to the winners from among the 16 teams which participated. Blades United collected $30,000.

Third-place Blazers received $15,000 while it was $10,000 for Humming Birds, the fourth-place team.

Oberon Pitterson Nattie, head coach of the Sunshine Girls, who turned out for Friends of VMBS, won a prize for being the top shooter. The prize for the best-dressed team went to Portland.

The other parishes which entered teams were the Corporate Area (Kingston and St Andrew), St. Mary, Manchester and Trelawny.

JNA President Marva Bernard, thanked the teams for participating, stating that the Fast Five Rally will become a regular event on the JNA's calendar and that it "will be bigger and better next year".

The Fast Five version of netball is a shorter version of the game with goal scoring situations that offer more points than traditional netball.

The event was part of a fund-raising event dubbed Fast Five Rally and Fun Day which included a jumble sale and a number of companies showcasing their products. The money raised will go towards the expenses involved in sending Jamaica's team to the World Youth Netball Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, next month.
