Broadcaster receives 29-year prison sentence

Broadcaster Wayne Whyte, the mastermind behind the attack on fellow broadcaster Jodi-Ann Gray, was sentenced to a total of 29 years in prison; however, he will only spend 14 years in prison, since the sentences will run at the same time.

The sentence was handed down on Monday in the Gun Court by Justice Courtney Daye.

Whyte was sentenced to 10 years on the charge of illegal possession of a firearm, five years for illegal possession of ammunition, and 14 years for wounding with intent.

In handing down the sentence, Justice Daye said he took into account the fact that Whyte had already served one year in prison.

Whyte's co-accused Safari Farr had also been given a similar sentence.

Both men had previously pleaded guilty to the charges on June 26.

Gray was attacked as she arrived home in Cedar Grove in Portmore, St Catherine, on April 4 last year. At the time she was pregnant.
