RM recommends counselling for man |

It was a change of heart why Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey did not remand an accused man for psychiatric evaluation, but instead recommend him for counselling, after she heard why he broke his father's arm in a dispute recently. Jerome Brown, charged with unlawful wounding, is to return to court on July 15, and was granted $50,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday. It is alleged that Brown broke his father's arm in a domestic dispute at their home last month. RM Pusey said she was going to remand the accused to get his head checked, after the complainant explained that he believes that his son has a mental problem. However, the RM changed her mind and ordered that a probation officer investigate what is happening in the family home, when the accused begged for the magistrate to split justice and listen to his side of the story. Among many things, the complainant explained that he is constantly provoked in the home and on the day in question, he was attacked by the complainant with a machete. The complainant who was unhappy with the RM's ruling, said if the court had time to listen to his version of what took place, she (the RM), would sentence Brown to 20 years in prison. |
