Newlyweds Karen and Egbert Moore share the first dance at their surprise wedding reception from Digicel recently at the Registrar General's Department in Twickenham Park, Spanish Town, St Catherine. - Contributed On Saturday, June 29, Digicel transformed the lawns of the Registrar General's Department (RDG) to host a surprise wedding reception for Karen Bennett and Egbert Moore as part of their Extraordinary Moments initiative. Overcome with emotion, the new bride, Karen Bennett, could not hold back the tears when she and Egbert walked into a shower of bubbles and confetti from close friends and family. "This is just, wow! This is just extraordinary!" Bennett exclaimed. Hailing from Spanish Town, St Catherine, the couple, who had made no plans for a reception, was pleasantly surprised when they walked out of the RGD offices and on to a red carpet in the lawn area leading to a celebration in their honour. The intimate affair, catered and decorated by Jacqui Tyson, featured a champagne toast, a wedding cake by Veneta Smith-Kerr and a surprise appearance by Digicel Rising Stars 2006 winners One Third, whose soulful serenade delighted the audience of family members and close friends. Scores of weddings are officiated at the RGD's Twickenham Park location monthly; each ceremony normally lasting for 30 minutes. That day, however, the lucky couple was cleverly delayed in order to surprise them with a wedding reception courtesy of Digicel. Representatives from the Registrar General's Department were delighted to be part of the initiative which was a first for the Registry. "The surprise moment was executed to perfection and from all accounts, the experience was an extraordinary one for the couple and the perfect beginning for their 'happily ever after'. The RGD, like Digicel, sees corporate social responsibility as important and is happy to have been integral in giving back to well-deserving customers," said Kimberlyn Williams, marketing and planning manager at the RGD. Senior Communications Manager at Digicel, Shelly-Ann Harris, shared the significance of the initiative. "Digicel deeply believes in celebrating the extraordinary moments in our customers' lives and as June is a wedding month, we thought it would be meaningful to help make someone's wedding into an unforgettable experience and I must say that today was indeed a special occasion," said Harris. In 2012, the RGD had a total of 1,607 weddings at its offices islandwide. |
