Western Bureau:

Lucea FC etched their name on the Captain's Bakery and Grill-sponsored Hanover FA Major League trophy on Sunday, coming away big 5-2 winners over Mt Pelier in the final at Watson Taylor Park.

The victory gave them a healthy 8-3 aggregate win to gain promotion to the Western Confederation Super League next season.

It was easy pickings for the Christopher Dias-coached Lucea team, as they took apart their opponents with relative ease and with a little more composure could have gained an even bigger margin of victory.

"It feels good ... Hard work has paid us full dividends," said Dias, "But while we are extremely happy for taking home the trophy, some major adjustments will have to be made in order for the club to be viable in the Super League."

The opening goal on Sunday came in the 19th minute through Junel McDonald who beat Esron Laing in the Mt Pelier. McDonald was again on target in the 27th minute, as his team piled on the pressure.

It was clear that cementing the parish's place in the Super League was on the Lucea players' mind and it was made easier from the first leg of the finals, where they brushed off Mt Pelier 3-1.

"We wanted this title and we worked very hard for it. McDonald did very well to score two but it was clearly a total team effort," reasoned Dias.

Davion Myers made the score 3-0 with his clinical strike in the 30th minute but the battling striker Stainton Brown pulled back a goal for Mt Pelier soon after. On the stroke of half-time, however, Lexson Samuels made no mistake from just inside the 18-yard box, to give Lucea a 4-1 lead at the break.

Even with Mt Pelier looking a better side in the second half and grabbing a second goal in the 53rd minute through Oliver Bright, there was no stopping Lucea and Jamie Ramsey's 69th-minute strike was simply icing on the cake on their way to hoisting the trophy handed to them by Jamaica Football Federation boss Captain Horace Burrell, owner of the Captain's Bakery and Grill.
