After gun battle in Lakes Pen ... Police hunt gunmen

Up to news time last night, members of the security forces were still searching sections of Lakes Pen, St Catherine, for gunmen who were engaged in a gun battle with each other which caused chaos among motorists using the Lakes Pen main road.

Police said that the shooting incident which occurred in the St Catherine community was as a result of infighting among members of the Clansman gang.

The Spanish Town police said three motor cars were damaged in the incident by bullets after gunmen traded shots at each other for several minutes. A senior investigator told THE STAR that there was a divide in the gang which has been resulting in acts of violence.

Reports are that about 8 a.m., persons travelling to and from Spanish Town had to beat a hasty retreat after the men engaged each other in a shoot-out.

When the scene was visited, the police collected an assortment of casings used in different types of guns.

The St Catherine Major Investigation Task Force is conducting a probe in the matter.
