Five hundred thousand dollars bail has been granted to a woman accused of trafficking a 14-year-old Haitian girl to Jamaica. The woman, Benoshin Reeves made her appearance in The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday. She is to return to court on July 5. Her common-law husband Rohan Ebanks was remanded. The court was told that in 2010, Ebanks, who is a fisherman went to Haiti where he saw the girl and told her mother he would like to help to give her a better life as well as assist with sending her to school in Jamaica. He reportedly asked the woman for permission to take her daughter to Jamaica and she agreed. When he took her to Jamaica he reportedly locked her in his house and used her to take care of his household. Ebanks reportedly raped her on one occasion while she was living with him. She managed to escape last November and was assisted by concerned residents. A report was later made to the police and following an investigation the couple was arrested and charged.
