Mayor concerned about high level of murder Rasbert Turner, Portmore Star Writer Portmore Mayor George Lee said he is very concerned about the high level of crime in the St Catherine South Police Division. "I have invited the minister of national security (to a meeting) as a result of the number of murders in Portmore. It is especially sad, as the lives of women and children are among the casualties," Lee said. Lee was addressing the monthly Portmore Municipal Council recently. He said that as a result of the 10-year commemoration of the PMC, it is important that the problem be dealt with. The mayor said that the council is achieving 10 years in the local government system. "It is a great achievement, but crime is the major hindrance to growth, so we have to work it out, " Lee said. Overall, he said that there will be week-long activities from June 23 to celebrate the 10 years. |
