Steelworker accused of theft, assault to face court

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James steelworker accused of damaging his girlfriend's radio and stabbing her male friend last September, will have his case mentioned in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on July 10.

Peter Minott from King Street, Montego Bay, is charged with unlawful wounding, against Linvald Williamson, and malicious destruction of property, against Michelle Sargent. He received the new court date when his matter was mentioned Wednesday, as the complainants were absent.

Allegations are that, on September 13, Williamson, who is said to be a friend of Sargent, was at the popular Dump-up Beach in Montego Bay, when Minott attacked and stabbed him in the arm and back with an ice-pick.

Later, the same day, Minott allegedly accosted Sargent along King Street, grabbed a radio she had in her possession and threw it to the ground, damaging it.

Clerk of the court Natalie Malcolm told Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tai that neither Sargent nor Williamson was present at court.

"The accused man (Minott) was to make compensation of $17,000 to Sargent today. In respect to the other matter, mediation is to be canvassed, but that complainant, Williamson, has never attended," said Malcolm.

"I'm going to set another date for the complainants to be warned to be here. Sir, you are to return to court on July 10," RM Tai told Minott.
